Confidentiality Issues

The counseling relationship is a legally privileged relationship. You can be assured that your privacy will be protected. However, there are certain conditions under which I must report to the appropriate authorities what you have shared with me as your counselor. These conditions are: your expressed intentions to harm yourself or someone else; if you reveal a situation in which there is or has been abuse, neglect or endangerment of children or elderly.
In the unlikely event that reporting should become necessary, I will make every effort to see that it is handled in the most respectful way possible.
